ESB to host a series of Public Exhibitions on Sea Stacks Offshore Wind

At ESB we know the importance of offshore wind in tackling climate change and delivering Net Zero. Ireland has a unique capability given its prime location to take advantage of the potential of offshore wind. We are working hard to develop offshore wind projects for the benefit of everyone across society in Ireland and the UK, and this includes ongoing engagement with marine users and local communities so we can deliver these significant projects.

Sea Stacks Offshore Wind is a proposed 800MW fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, to be located approximately 12-32km off the coast of south County Dublin and north County Wicklow.

To give local communities the opportunity to learn more about the project, we are hosting a series of public exhibitions in early November. The exhibitions are a follow-on from the project’s virtual consultation room (open online from 31st May to 11th July 2022) and will offer attendees the opportunity to review up-to-date information on the project as well as to meet with the project team.

The exhibitions will take place as follows:
Tuesday 8th November, 4-8pm, Marine Hotel, Sutton, Co. Dublin
Wednesday 9th November, 4-8pm, National Maritime Museum of Ireland, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin
Thursday 10th November, 4-8pm, Greystones Sailing Club, Greystones, Co. Wicklow

21st July 2022 – Public webinar on Sea Stacks Offshore Wind

ESB will host a webinar on the proposed Sea Stacks Offshore Wind project from 7:30-8:30pm on Thursday 21st July. The webinar will provide up-to-date information from the Sea Stacks project
team as well as offer an opportunity to the public to submit questions or provide feedback.
All questions and answers will be added to the project website after the event, www.seastacksoffshorewind.ie

11th July 2022 – Phase 2 of public consultation on Foreshore Licence for Sea Stacks Offshore Wind

An application for an Investigative Foreshore Licence regarding our Sea Stacks Offshore Wind project was submitted to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in November 2020. The initial phase of formal public consultation on the project occurred between 23rd December 2021 and 30th January 2022. In accordance with Article 6(3) of the EU Habitats Directive and Regulation 42(1) of the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011, a determination has been made by the Minister following screening that an Appropriate Assessment is required. This determination is based on the location, scale, extent and duration of the proposed development, including temporary works, and has not taken account of measures intended to avoid or reduce significant effects on European sites.

Subject to this determination, a further round of public consultation on the Foreshore Licence application will take place, commencing on Monday 11th July and concluding on Tuesday 9th August 2022. The closing date for submissions is close of business (17:00) on Tuesday 9th August 2022.

November 2020 – ESB applies for a Foreshore Licence for Sea Stacks Offshore Wind.

The Sea Stacks Offshore Wind Foreshore Licence application has been submitted to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and will be available to view on the Departments website. Formal public consultation will commence once the Department make the application available to the public. A link to the relevant Department webpage will be posted here as soon as it is available.
